Hello Ryan, we haven't met b4 but I hope that we do in the future. My name is Vivek Goel, I'm a Microsoft 3rd party who works for Future Technologies. This company is a defense contractor.
I know that the most important thing for Google is the continued acceptance of reasonable security standards that don't infringe on folks' privacy. I read an article about Excite many years ago called "The Millionaires next door". I guess you should have called it "The Millionaires Next Doerr".
Sincerely,
Vivek Goel

Very many congratulations. It will be exciting to see how Google is able to help grow Postini to meet that common vision you were referring to.

Congrats Ryan! I recently came across your blog and subscribed - thanks for sharing the insight here and the details of the story.
I agree with you on the IBM\Zimbra call too - its really the only way to "catch up" to what is out there. Re-doing all the work would not be beneficial at this point as Zimbra already has their version deployed and being used by so many people.

The folks over at BackChannel http://thebackchannel.blogspot.com/ have some empirical data on the relative size and market power of Postini, Microsoft (frontbridge) and the number 2 in the space, Messagelabs. For those with short attention spans... here's the beef:
