About
Ryan McIntyre
Managing Director Foundry Group
I’m a VC, musician, husband and dad. I’m a co-founder and Managing Director of Foundry Group, a new $225m venture fund focused on early-stage investments in the software/internet/IT sandbox. I also continue to manage my portfolio at Mobius Venture Capital, where I’ve invested in companies such as Glimmerglass, Postini (now part of Google), Sling Media (now part of EchoStar), Technorati and Xythos (now part of Blackboard).
Prior to joining Mobius in January 2000, I was an entrepreneur and was one of the founders of the web portal Excite, which I co-founded in 1993 along with five of my classmates from Stanford, where I got my degree in Symbolic Systems with a concentration in artificial intelligence.
I’m an avid musician, foodie and zymurgist. I dabble in angel investing beyond my VC practice, but tend to stick to investing in companies outside of the technology industry and follow my personal passions when I angel invest. So far, I’ve invested in an organic meat company, a microbrewery, a chocolate company, an indie record label and a secondary marketplace for event tickets (StubHub, now part of eBay).
I’ve played guitar for the past twenty-some years and still find time now and again to play with my two bands (the one with a website is called Soul Patch) and to write and record music in the recording studio and small record label I run from my home.
Saving the best for last, I’ve been happily married for over ten years to my lovely wife Katherine, and we are now the proud parents of our son Quinn Alexander McIntyre who was born on December 7th, 2003. And lest I give my four-legged friend short-shrift, we are also the proud parents of an 85 pound black lab / german shepherd mix named Bear.
